75 years on. The bombs on Chaddesden Park.

I had forgotten that the 12th/13th of December this year (2015) sees the 75th anniversary of the bombs dropping on and around Chaddesden Park. Until, that is, I received an email from the Rev Basil Denno enclosing the article he wrote some 23 years ago. The information he enclosed in his message as well as his report are of such interest that I have included his message to me as a lead in to his article. Chaddesden Toll House.

The Toll house was situated at the border between Chaddesden and Derby on the Nottingham (Turnpike) Road. According to Turnpikes.org.uk, there are references to the Chaddesden Toll House in 1833, 1839 and 1851 and they pin the location down to Cowsley Field Gate opposite …
